Conexión Jaguar Program goes international with its first project in Peru

The area where the project is being developed is home to endemic species of this country, such as the yellow-tailed woolly monkey and the yellow-browed toucanet, animals in critical danger of extinction. This area is known as the Peruvian yungas, one of the most important ecoregions in the world for its exceptional levels of biodiversity, expressed in a high richness of species and animal records not found anywhere else in the world.

Thanks to the commitment of the community and the ISA Group’s Conexión Jaguar Program, Colombia envisages a positive future for sustainable development. This was demonstrated by the evaluation of the second stage of the sampling of camera traps installed by researchers from Panthera, a technical ally of the Program, in Cimitarra, Santander; and in the visit to install camera traps in Tierralta, Córdoba, where great findings for the ecosystem balance were evidenced.

The sighting represents a very important event for the conservation of fauna and biodiversity because in Colombia there are only 6 species of felines. Several species of fauna that are part of the jaguar ecosystem are the findings so far of Conexión Jaguar Program in Colombia since its implementation in 2017.

  • Assisted Natural Regeneration
  • Ecosystem restoration
  • Forest conservation
  • Others associated with the reduction of pressure on forests, such as ecotourism and environmental education.

Minimum desirable areas

  • Reforestation: 1.500 hectares
  • Conservation: 10.000 hectares
  • Projects that have started their activities in a period of less than 4 years.
  • Non-existence of land restitution claims
  • Not being reported on international or national watch lists
  • For reforestation projects: Not having cut down the forest to plan
  • For conservation projects: Existence of forest with verifiable threat of deforestation
  • To be located in the strategic areas of the Jaguar Corridor and ISA's presence (Colombia, Brazil, Chile, and Peru).
  • In Chile, our focal species is the puma
  • To have the documentation supporting the ownership of the land, contracts or agreements that prove their rights over the areas.
  • To have the necessary resources or sources of financing to implement planting, cultivation, or conservation activities.
  • Authority to make decisions as owner or representative of project owners
  • Willingness to provide project information in an agile manner
  • Willingness to commit to the Program through carbon credits
  • Willingness to sign agreements with allies
  • Generate a positive impact for the environment, the community and biodiversity.
