In line with objective 4 of the Conexión Jaguar Program – to raise awareness and generate consciousness about the deterioration of the environment and the loss of biodiversity on the planet – on October 2 and 3, we carried out, together with INTERCOLOMBIA, the environmental awareness and education workshop in the La Manguita area, in the municipality of Amalfi (Antioquia). This took place within the framework of the Third Rodando en Bicicleta (Riding a Bicycle) Short Film Festival, which this year focused on three themes: bicycle, mining, and jaguar.
The objective of the workshop is to raise awareness and educate attendees about climate change, its main causes, and consequences, and how actions can be taken at the household level to mitigate its effects.
The workshop was aimed at the students of the Pueblo Nuevo Educational Institution and other members of the community and was held in two sessions with the participation of more than 100 people. The importance of biodiversity and the role of the jaguar as an umbrella species and as an indicator and protector of ecosystems and water was explained.
The context of the Conexión Jaguar Program and how it contributes to biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation was also described.
